Algorithm on management of Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) cases

Attachment (187.67 KB)

Dear colleague The National Polio Experts Committee was established in 2003 to evaluate and classify cases of acute flaccid paralysis in the country as well as assist the Directorate of Health Information and Research in the MoHSS with activities of disease surveillance as part of the WHO Global Polio Eradication Initiative. The last reported case of polio in the country was in 2006. In order to aid practitioners in recognising, reporting and managing cases of acute flaccid paralysis, the Directorate has revised the AFP algorithm (attached) and I now request that you please distribute this to your membership for their records. I want to draw your attention to the case definition of AFP as well as the hotline number, which we encourage practitioners to utilise in the case of a diagnosis of acute flaccid paralysis. Sincerely Dr Vaja Zatjirua Chair: National Polio Expert Committee Namibia
